Pups with discernable palates are going to fall in love with Inception’s limited-ingredient food that features 70% animal protein.
When it comes to finding the best dog food, it seems I’m on a never-ending quest. I have one of the pickiest dogs on the planet, and I want to make sure I find food that is not just palatable to her, but good for her, too.
When I got the chance to try out Pets Global’s Inception line of dry kibble and wet food, I was excited to see what my dogs would think. Both dogs are rescue dogs, and when it comes to eating, they’re night and day. My blondie, Lucy, was a stray on the streets as a baby when she was scooped up for rescue. She’s always eaten any and every dog food we’ve put in front of her.
My Lilly, on the other hand, went on a food-strike when our older Golden Retriever died almost two years ago. Lilly grieved Dixie’s death so hard she stopped eating. She never really picked eating up as a regular habit. We’re constantly looking for foods that will appeal to her taste buds but also be full of nutrition and the things she needs to keep her healthy and happy.
And, as a pet parent who is concerned about the ingredients that go into the foods I feed my dogs, I also am looking for foods that come from companies who are as committed to my dog’s wellbeing as I am.
Inception Dog Foods: Total Pet Nutrition at a Great Price
Inception dog food was introduced to the pet food market last year and comes from parent company Pets Global, Inc. Pets Global, Inc. is an independent holistic wellness company. Being an independent company means they have the freedom to look for and choose the ingredients that they want for cats and dogs, and they’re driven to come up with the best quality, Physiologically Tuned recipes to offer pets total nutrition.
Protein First: Ingredients Matter
Inception foods are formulated with animal protein first. In fact, over 70 percent animal protein is what makes up their dog food, and that’s important when it comes to fueling your pups. All recipes have animal proteins as the first two ingredients, and incorporate healthful ancient grains. There are no potatoes, legumes, corn, wheat, soy, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Just wholesome ingredients sourced from the United States and Canada.
Why is a potato and legume-free food important? When you feed it to your dog, you won’t have to worry about any sensitivities or allergies that can cause upset tummies, hot spots and more. Being free of corn, wheat and soy also helps prevent reactions, and because there are several different recipes, you can offer your dog different proteins as well.
So what IS in Inception’s recipes? Well, the main draw is meat as the first ingredient, of course. I love that Inception sources meats from local farmers, and puts a big focus on responsible and sustainable farming.
In addition to real meat as the first ingredient, Inception dog foods include millet, oats and milo.
Millet is a nutritious source of carbohydrates and is easy for dogs to digest than other grains. It’s high in protein and is excellent for dogs who may suffer from food sensitivities.
Oats are another nutrient-dense ingredient that is full of linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is an omega-6 fatty acid, and this is what helps your dog’s skin be healthy and strong. Like in humans, skin is your dog’s largest organ and it’s essential to keep it in tip-top shape. Oats also have essential minerals, which help keep your dog’s immune system healthy.
Milo is also full of immune-building micro-nutrients like zinc, copper and magnesium. And when it comes to fiber, which helps keep your pet’s colon nice and clean, milo is a great source and improves digestion.
But How Does It Taste?
The real test came down to whether my Lilly would not only eat it, but like it. I often will bring various dog food samples home and gauge her interest. After Dixie died, Lilly would only eat if I topped her food with something, either a broth or a portion of wet food. Believe it or not, she was even picky about wet food.
When I set the bags down to see if there was any initial interest, there was! Lucy was interested too, and that was super encouraging.
Still, we’ve been here before…when Lilly showed initial interest until it was in her bowl and then, after a bite or two, she wanted nothing to do with it.
I decided to try the chicken and pork blend, as I thought that combo sounded delicious. I was happy to find that she not only had interest, but she seemed like she wanted more!
The kibble size is nice, and the texture smooth, which is a bit different than some of the other pellet-shaped kibble she has been eating. I think she preferred the smoother shape and texture.
Lucy also enjoyed her bowl full, so much so that she sat pretty for some more!
After I gave them a helping of the dry kibble, I decided to give the wet food a shot. One thing I noticed about both the kibble and the wet food was the lack of overwhelming smell.
Some dog foods have such a strong smell, it’s overpowering. I understand that appealing to a dog’s sense of smell is essential when it comes to enticing them to eat, but for humans, it can be a turn-off. Not the case with Inception, but my dogs still seemed like they couldn’t wait to eat it!
And I love that Inception gives food guideline recommendations for you if you combine dry and wet food, as many of us with picky pups do.
Inception Dog Food: The Verdict
After learning more about Pets Global’s commitment to pet wellness, and really being impressed with the sourcing for their ingredients, the fact that my dogs seemed to eat it up with such excitement and contentment made me happy.
Additionally, it’s really reasonably priced for such a premium-ingredient dog-food. One of my biggest pet peeves about food in general, for humans and for pets, is that too often, truly healthful foods are simply unaffordable for the average family/pet parent. Inception is affordable and full of good, nutrient-dense ingredients that fuel your pooches and makes their taste buds happy too.
Most importantly, it’s obvious the ingredients were thoughtfully considered and blended to be the best for your dog’s overall health and wellness, AND their palatability. Inception is proof you can find a well-made, nutrient-dense food that’s affordable, good for our dogs and will have them coming back for more. Whether it’s the Fish, Chicken, Pork or Chicken and Pork recipe blends, you can be sure you’re doing better for your dog, and they’re enjoying every bite!
